As we are amid the holiday season, the sights turn to lit up houses, Christmas trees, and packed streets of shoppers. Our thoughts turn to time with family and friends, holiday parties, and gift giving. Often, this time is one that we reflect on past seasons and special gifts that brightened our childhoods and memories that will last a lifetime and beyond. Have you ever wondered what items your parents or grandparents may have had on their wish lists? Curious as to what items were available as possible gifts during Christmases past? So, it’s only appropriate that December’s Archival Experience be Memories of Christmas Past with a display of Christmas cards, ornaments, toys and more
Saving Memories: Creating a Family Archive
Do you have shoeboxes overflowing with letters, photos, newspaper clippings and various other documents? Do you want to organize your family memories, but are confused where to start due to size, diverse formats or attached emotions? The first Archival Experience of the new year on January 20th will take you through how to handle your artifacts, the best supplies to buy, and ways to display and share your personal archives. You'll receive some sample preservation materials, as well as a resource list of suppliers to get you started at home. This program is free, but reservations are necessary. We only have room and supplies for 20 participants for each session: SESSION 1: 10am-12noon & SESSION 2: 1:30-3:30pm

Just for fun, and in honor of Valentine's Day, February's Archival Experience will be all about LOVE and finding it in the SCCHS Archives' Special Collections. And since there are plenty of ways to celebrate the holiday, given that February 2024 is special, we'll be leaping to showcase why people love local history and archives with a display of love letters, valentines, and artifacts.
